Artwork FAQs

Why do I see a warning about low-resolution images?

Our system checks image resolution to ensure the best print quality. The industry standard is 300 DPI. We issue a warning if the supplied image is below 275 DPI. Images under 150 DPI are likley to appear pixelated. You can choose to resupply a higher-resolution file if needed.

Why can I only upload a PDF?

PDFs are the industry standard for print production and allow us to run preflight checks to prevent printing issues. If you're using Microsoft Office, you can export your document as a PDF before uploading.

Why do the colours in the preview look different from the file I uploaded?

During our preflight check, all uploaded files are converted to CMYK. If your original file contains RGB, Spot, or Pantone colors, they may appear different in the preview.

What is bleed and why do I need it?

Bleed is the part of a printed page that goes beyond the edge that is cut. It ensures edge-to-edge printing without white margins. We require a 3mm bleed beyond the standard document size.

Where can I find a template for my design?

You can find design templates for each product on its respective product page. Alternatively, you can download templates by size from our Artwork Templates section.

What is the best set up for uploaded files?

For optimal results, use our PDF templates and ensure your file meets these specifications:

✅ Set to CMYK color mode

✅ Includes 3mm bleed

✅ Saved without crop marks

✅ All fonts embedded or outlined

Why do some pages need to be uploaded as single PDFs while others require printer spreads?

Most jobs should be uploaded as single pages in the correct numerical order (Cover, Page 1, Page 2, etc.) to ensure proper pagination.

However, for greeting cards and folded leaflets, files should be uploaded in an unfolded layout to guarantee correct imposition.

What should I do if my file is too large to upload?

Our system allows uploads up to 8MB, which is sufficient for most files. If your file exceeds this size, try exporting it at a lower resolution using Adobe Acrobat. If you still have trouble, please contact us for assistance.

What are embedded fonts?

Embedding fonts ensures that all typefaces in your document are preserved within the PDF. This prevents font substitutions and guarantees that your design appears as intended. Most desktop publishing software allows font embedding.

What should I do if my PDF is the wrong size or orientation?

Ensure your file matches the required dimensions and orientation for your selected product. Double-check your settings on the product page. If you need help, download our PDF templates here: Artwork Templates.

What am I seeing in the Preview?

The Preview displays how your uploaded file will appear before finishing. The bleed area will be visible in the Preview. If your original artwork contains crop marks, these will be visible in the bleed area in the preview but will be automatically removed during the printing process.
