Adding a QR Code
A QR code is a scannable square barcode that links directly to a web address when photographed with a smartphone. On your product, a QR code is a handy way to point people to your website, online shop, or social media profile. This page explains how to add and configure one using the barcode field.
Adding the barcode field
To add a QR code, drag Add Barcode from the Fields panel onto the canvas. The field will be placed in the centre of the page, and help text will appear automatically. Click the field to open the Barcode Field configuration panel on the right.
Configuring your QR code
Once the panel is open, you'll need to make two changes:
- Type – the field defaults to Data Matrix. Open the Type dropdown and select QR Code.
- Value – this is the web address your QR code will link to. Replace the placeholder text with the full URL, for example, your website or a social media profile. Make sure you copy the complete address, including https://.
Sizing your QR code
A QR code needs to be large enough to scan reliably once printed, if it's too small, it may not work. Resize the field on the canvas by dragging the corner handles, and use the Preview function to check how it will appear at print size before adding to your basket.
Show Human Readable
This option displays the web address as small text beneath the QR code. This can reassure people that the link is genuine, but in practice the text is rarely legible at print size and can be left unticked for most orders.
Positioning your QR code
QR codes work best when placed in a clear area of the page with sufficient white space around them, avoid positioning them over patterned or dark backgrounds, as this can affect scannability.
A note on links
Before adding a QR code to a design going to print, always test the link by scanning it with a smartphone to confirm it reaches the correct page.
